Top 10 Most Unique Bars

Posted by Jamie Orman on July 12th, 2009

Looking for a great bar to go to on your next trip? Well, so am I. So I made this list as a little reference for all bar lovers out there! Make sure your next trip includes one or more of these unique bars.

1.  Alcoholic Architecture – London, UK

1

Alcoholic Architecture is a new kind of bar over in the UK. You basically sit in a giant gin and tonic for a few hours and walk out feeling very happy. Roughly 7 bucks for this little 40-min feast in which you breath in your drink (the alcohol goes straight to your blood this way, instead of loafing around in your liver if you were drinking it, this allows you to get drunk faster). Did we mention the room is themed to look as if you are sitting in a giant drink? You even listen to a soundtrack of falling ice cubes.

2. A21 – Helsinki, Finland

2

One of the few bars where not only can you order a drink, but you can learn how to make it too! A21 puts a new spin on drinking, with their stylish bar it gives off a very pleasing vibe. The couch type booths provide a very relxing and intimate environment, perfect to share a drink with your friends.

3. Ice Bar - Orlando, Florida

3

Looking for that truly unique experience? What is better than an Ice Bar? Everything from the chairs you lounge on to the bar you sit at and the drinks you drink out of, all made out of ice kept at a nice 27 degrees fahrenheit. An experience not to be forgotten! But no need to worry about it being super cold, the whole bar is not freezing cold, you can rest assured the bathrooms are perfectly warm.

4. Sean’s Bar -  Arthlone, Ireland

4

A bar that claims to be the oldest bar in Europe, and it does live up to its name. The bar is filled with a very friendly atmosphere for everyone. Its a classic must see, pretty much nothing has changed since its doors first opened! The walls lined with old artifacts, including a letter from Genius Work Records, testimonial to the proof of how old this place really is!

5. Zeta Bar – Sydney, Austrailia

5

Ever want to feel like secret agent, James Bond? Then this is the perfect bar for you. It looks like a glamorous set right out of one of the many films and this proves to be the perfect venue to share a few drinks.  Inside you are bombarded with a fast up and coming bar, complete with a rooftop terrance to sit and have your cocktail, right at one of the sexiest bars in the city.

6. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem – Nottingham, England

6

A bar that is built right on the bottom of a castle! Can it get any better than that? It is actually connected to the castle through a network of underground caves. The moment you step through the door you are transported back in time, so go and enjoy a few drinks. This place even has an old fireplace (complete with centuries of dust).

7. Red Sea Star Bar – Eilat, Israel

7

Have you ever wanted to get drunk underwater? Well now is your chance! This completely underwater bar will be an experience you will never forget. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of underwater life, as well as that tasty cocktail to your hearts content! It also serves as part restaurant, so feel free to grab some grub at the same time.

8. Skeleton Bar – Gruyere in Switzerland

8

This bar is a treat on the eyes, thats for sure. Its designed by the same guy that did the classic Alien movie, Hans Rudi Giger. Apparently he has won a bunch of awards, some for this bar to. I couldn’t seem to find an actual website for this place, but it sure looks great. It would be kind of scary to get completely drunk in this place, but nice for a drink or two, I’m sure.

9. Hobbit House Bar – Manila Philippines

9

If a Lord of the Rings themed bar is your thing, then the Hobbit House is right up your ally! Everyone that works in the bar are ‘little people’ to encourage this Tolkien inspired bar. Be sure to try the local Lambanog, a coconut liquor they are famous for.

10. Clinic – Clarke Quay, Singapore

10

Ready for a really interesting bar? Try the Clinic. A hospital style bar, complete with wheelchair bound seats and syringes filled with alcohol. Nurses give your prescriptions out in little doses. This is for sure a must see bar, truly unique in every sense of the word.

Feel free to leave your own interesting bars as well as your experiences!
